Pavol Hloska 'Golden Path (I)' Optical Glass, 24ct gold     PAVOL HLOSKA

Born in 1953 in Slovakia, the glass artist Pavol Hlôska studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava from 1973 till 1979 under Vaclav Cigler; acknowledged leader and inspiration of the ‘Optical School’.

In his creations, Pavol uses glass forms that allow him to originate illusions of infinite space which always spark interest and curiosity. While a pure surface may be emphasised from one side, crystalline structures are clearly legible from another side. This illusion is animated by the viewer whilst moving around the glass piece.

Technologically, the execution of this complex technique is extremely demanding. Pavol uses optical glass to which he applies various precious metals by means of vacuum, and treats glass by gluing, cutting and polishing.

Through the combination of these delicate procedures, he captures the light and geometric structure reflecting like a diamond, with multiple facets imprisoned in a sober form.

The unique shapes, colour, multiple metal patterns and incident light, repeatedly lead to a spectacular experience.
